When conventional slab-on-grade solutions are inadequate because of compressible soils or undocumented fill, Geopier® foundation systems provide economical solutions for the support and settlement control of conventional light to heavily loaded floor slabs in industrial, commercial, and residential applications.
Use of Geopier® ground improvement provides substantial cost savings by eliminating the need for a structural slab supported on deep foundations. The presence of the stiff Geopier ground improvement elements surrounded by the improved matrix soil results in significantly reduced shear and moment demands as compared to deep foundations, thereby reducing the concrete thickness and structural steel demands. Depending on the floor slab design pressures, the subsurface conditions, and pier spacing, floor slab steel reinforcing is minimized. The structural performance of the floor slabs is often analyzed using Finite Element Analysis techniques to achieve designed slab performance.
