Steve has been involved in the geotechnical engineering community for over 36 years. Steve first started at Geopier as a Region Engineer throughout Michigan and northern Ohio, where he performed numerous site evaluations and cost-effective recommendations for projects having poor soil conditions. As a Senior Region Engineer he has had the privilege to work with many of the Region Engineers across the United States on sites with challenging soil conditions. As the Area Director serving the South Region, Steve will focus on supporting the Region Engineers, Area Managers, Engineering and Licensees to assist bringing the best ground improvement solutions to our partners in a timely manner. Before joining Geopier, he worked over 15 years at Alt and Witzig Engineering Inc. in numerous roles from Project Engineer, Senior Project Engineer, Geotechnical Drilling Services Coordinator, and Geotechnical Engineer Group Leader. In his various engineering roles, he performed numerous subsurface evaluations for commercial, industrial, municipal, residential and Indiana Department of Transportation Projects. The recommendations within these evaluations included shallow footings, deep foundations, soil improvement, slope stability analysis, and pavement design. Before joining on with Alt & Witzig Engineering Inc., Steve worked at Tenneco Oil Company E &P prospecting, developing, and optimizing oil and natural gas production in West Texas (Permian Basin) and Offshore Gulf of Mexico.
Steve received a BS in Geological Engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology in Rolla Missouri. He is a Professional Engineer and Registered Professional Geologist in numerous states. He is also a LEED AP from the Green Building Certification Institute. He has served in various roles on multiple professional boards including Indiana State Section ASCE Board of Directors, Transportation Technical Committee Chairperson ASCE Southeast Michigan Branch, and Local Involvement Committee (LIC) for Geo-Institute of ASCE.
